PORTRAIT OF AN AMERICAN FAMILY

After a bunch of cassette demos, Portrait Of An American Family is the band's first studio album. The original mix was done by Roli Mossiman, but dismissed by Manson as too clean and Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) gave the album the rougher industrial mix Manson was aiming for.

"I wanted to address the hypocrisy of talkshow America, how morals are worn as a badge to make you look good and how it's much easier to talk about your beliefs than to live up to them. I was very much wrapped up in the concept that as kids growing up, a lot of the things that we're presented with have deeper meaning than our parents would like us to see, like Willy Wonka and the Brothers Grimm." (MM in Dissecting MM (pg.9))
